Overview

A digital flagship for a luxury collectibles brand — using real-time 3D rendering and spatial web design to give objects the same sense of weight, texture, and presence online that they command in a gallery environment.

The challenge

Arca creates limited-edition objects at the intersection of craft and conceptual art. Their physical retail presence — a sparse, gallery-like space in London — communicated the brand's values perfectly. Their website was a Shopify template with lightbox photography that could have belonged to any furniture brand.

The challenge was fundamental: how do you sell objects that are defined by their materiality and physical presence through a screen? Standard photography couldn't capture the tactile quality that justified the price point and the collector market.

"When someone holds one of our pieces, they understand it instantly. Online, we were losing that moment completely."

The approach

We built each object as a high-fidelity 3D model, rendered in real-time using WebGL with physically-based materials. Every surface — the grain in the stone, the patina on the bronze, the weight of the glass — was reconstructed from material scans and rendered under dynamic lighting that shifts as the viewer rotates the object.

The site architecture was rebuilt as a spatial experience: each collection is a room, and each product page is an environment. Scroll behaviour drives perspective shifts rather than simple vertical movement, making the act of browsing feel like a considered gallery walk.

We worked closely with Arca's founder on the editorial layer — long-form object biographies that document provenance, material sourcing, and the conceptual intent behind each piece. This content transformed the e-commerce experience into something closer to a catalogue raisonné.
